A school is an educational institution designed to provide learning environments for the teaching of students, usually under the direction of teachers. Most countries have systems of formal education, which are sometimes compulsory. In these systems, students progress through a series of schools that can be built and operated by both government and private organizations. The names for these schools vary by country but generally include primary school for young children and secondary school for teenagers who have completed primary education. An institution where higher education is taught is commonly called a college or university.

Scholarship Scheme

Other schemes target specific groups, such as the CBSE Merit Scholarship for single girl children in Class 11 and 12, the Pre-Matric Scholarship for children of those in hazardous occupations like manual scavenging, and the Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for single girl children pursuing postgraduate studies. For state-level schemes, platforms like A scholarship scheme by the University Grants Commission for Girl students who are admitted in the first year of PG courses in any designated university or a postgraduate college, and happen to be the only girl child in the family. The amount of fellowship is ₹ 36,200/- p.a. for the full duration of a PG course. The scheme has been introduced with an aim to compensate direct costs of girl education at all levels, especially for such girls who happen to be the only girl child in their families.

The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) division of the Education Ministry is in the process of implementing the first ‘Bharatiya Games’ initiative in schools throughout the country. As part of implementing this initiative, schools would need to appoint a physical education teacher as a point of contact who would oversee the development of annual and monthly training programmes for students.. The larger aim of the initiative is to ensure the inclusivity of the students living in the countryside where sports infrastructure is poor. In the first phase, the initiative would be implemented across 1,000 schools throughout the country which will gradually extend to all the schools

National Service Scheme Activities

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports oversees the National Service Scheme, which is a public service programme. Every year on September 24, India celebrates National Service Scheme Day (NSS Day). During Mahatma Gandhi’s Centenary Year (1969), on September 24, the National Service Scheme (NSS) was inaugurated, including 40,000 student volunteers from 37 institutions.Following the independence, the University Grants Commission (UGC), led by S Radhakrishnan, advocated the implementation of voluntary national service in academic institutions.
